Author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks suggests:
I'm rereading one of the best science books ever written: Randy Shilts' And the Band Played On, about AIDS. When I first read it, I thought, I want to write like that guy. While on book tour, I've been carrying around the e-book of Kathryn Stockett's The Help, since I keep hearing that I have to read it, and Ted Conover's The Routes of Man. The latter tells the stories of six roads to explore how they've changed humanity and culture. I've been carrying the hardback in my suitcase, which says a lot. That replaces a pair of shoes.
